Ammonium acetate, also known as spirit of Mindererus in aqueous solution, is a chemical compound with the formula NH4CH3CO2. It is a white, hygroscopic solid and can be derived from the reaction of ammonia and acetic acid. It is the main precursor to acetamide. Ammonium acetate can be use it as a raw material in the synthesis of pesticides, herbicides, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In industries, can be use to acidify textiles and hair. In some countries use it as a food acidity regulator. With acetic acid, it is a buffering agent. In organic chemistry, ammonium acetate found its use as a catalyst, in reactions such as Knoevenagel condensations. It can be use as a fertilizer and in the synthesis of explosives.
