Magnesium gluconate is the magnesium salt of gluconic acid. It is a compound with formula MgC12H22O14. It has E number “E580”. Magnesium gluconate is used to treat low blood magnesium. Low blood magnesium is caused by gastrointestinal disorders, prolonged vomiting or diarrhea, kidney disease, or certain other conditions. To prevent side effects, magnesium gluconate should be taken with meals. It can also used to treat symptoms of too much stomach acid such as stomach upset, heartburn, and acid indigestion.
