Phenol-formaldehyde resins

Phenol-formaldehyde resins are synthetic resins obtained by polycondensation of phenol and formaldehyde. Resins called novolac are formed in an acidic environment, and products condensed in an alkaline environment are called resole resins. Main applications of these types of resins include: the production of refractory, friction and abrasive materials, foundry, the production of heat-insulating and wood-based materials, as well as the production of glass grids and mats and laminates.
