Xylitol
Xylitol is a commonly used sweetener obtained from birch tree (Finnish xylitol) or corn cobs (Chinese xylitol). It has a lower calorific value than sugar and a dozen times lower glycemic index.
Xylitol – in other words, the sugar alcohol that is extracted from the birch tree (Finnish xylitol) or corn cobs (Chinese xylitol). It looks like white sugar and tastes like that, but its calorific value is lower by more than 40% (240kcal in 100g) and it contains a fourteen times lower glycemic index. Xylitol is used as a low-calorie white sugar substitute, recommended especially for diabetics and people suffering from insulin resistance.
