Pyridoxal phosphate (PLP, pyridoxal 5′-phosphate, P5P), is the active form of vitamin B6. It is a coenzyme in a variety of enzymatic reactions. PLP acts as a coenzyme in all transamination reactions, and in certain decarboxylation, deamination, and racemization reactions of amino acids. A variety of foods, such as meat, fish, nuts, grains, and vegetables contain vitamin B6. It’s involved in supporting the immune system, controlling blood glucose, creating hemoglobin and enhancing antioxidant defense.
